Together with the contemporary music theater ensemble DieOrdnungDerDinge, director Franziska Seeberg delves into the hazy memory of a mystical place. The production traces a sunken Danube island in Romania and follows the trail of nostalgic stories and images that have become increasingly blurred over time.

The closer I get, the blurrier the image becomes

With Ada Kaleh, DieOrdnungDerDinge develops a musical evening on the edge of memory and, based on interviews, meticulously reconstructs a place that was never like that. The failure to try not to lose the sharpness of the image when zooming in on the past is part of the game.
The piece deals with the phenomenon of memory and its sonic qualities. To achieve this, the ensemble interweaves Romanian hits, sound recordings from the Danube region and the noise of Michael Vorder's light bulb music.

The island of Ada Kaleh was washed away in 1971 by the construction of the Iron Gate dam. Romania gained electricity through this prestigious power plant. Until then, the almost two-kilometer-long island had been a Turkish enclave that lay between Romania and what was then Yugoslavia. It was a thriving excursion destination and was considered »exotic« by tourists from everywhere. Today, more than ever, it is a place of longing for many people.

Even the transfigured memory is full of ambivalences
